Have you met Loom??

Kindergarten kids miss seeing ad being in contact with their teacher!!
Loom makes it easier in Online Learning Times!

In Bergmann and Sams’ book (2012), they also pointed out that it all depends on the educational goal of your lesson. So a screencast, youtube video, or any other media must meet the final goals of the introductory class, but there is not a rule about which media you should use. If making videos better facilitate your instructional goal, then go ahead.

miss your face

Loom is an App compatible with Chrome that allows you to record your screen and show your face in a video bubble at the same time, and you can use it FOR FREE!

It is great for kindergarten, because like that, you can tell a story for example and children will see the book AND your pretty face!

It is very important for little children not to lose your sight because that helps them to maintain focus on the activity.

With Loon, you can create slide presentations and present them without losing your students.

The thing is, it a tool to record! So you must do it previous to your actual class/Gmeet.

It is a very intuitive tool. after installing it, a little icon will appear beside the address bar (up right corner) and whenever you want to use it, you just click there and your bubble will appear.

When you first use it, a speech bubble with some hints will paper. DON'T DISMISS IT! It is very brief and explanatory and it does not go on forever!! So don't worry! You need to know what it is going to tell you and just like that, you can record your first video!

After recording, you can share in several ways, like you tube, social media or even add it to your Google Classroom.

This tool will also work perfectly if you use the Flipped Classroom approach, which is 100% compatible with Online Instruction.

It is to say that, instead of teaching this lesson in-person, make a video like screencast works or another kind of introduction, but make sure it contains all the key elements you’d mention in the classroom.

How to Record with Loom

1. USE CHROME
Loom is a Google Chrome extension which means you'll need to use Chrome as your web browser (not Mozilla, Internet Explorer, Safari, etc.).

2. PRE-RECORDING PREP

Decide if you'll be doing a screen recording, recording yourself, or both.

Hook up your microphone and camera (if recording yourself).

If using recording yourself, make sure you have a good source of light on both sides of your face and behind you. Natural daylight is best if you're just getting started.

Hide your bookmarks bar if doing a screen recording (To do that go to the three dots in the upper right of your browser // “Bookmarks” // then untick “Show Bookmarks Bar”).

3.Adjust your settings in Loom:

View (yourself, screen, or both)
Camera source
Microphone source
Show / hide start / stop button
Show / hide control menu
Recording countdown

Pro tip: Avoid using your computer’s built in camera and microphone because they won’t be good quality. If you can’t afford the investment, that’s okay. However, if you can spend as little as $75 on a mic and camera combined, it’s well worth the investment. Your videos will be drastically change -- I speak from experience.

4. GO FULL-SCREEN
You don't have to do this step, but if you're recording your screen, I recommend it. It's a much cleaner look.
Pro tip: If you don’t go full-screen, at least close all the tabs you don’t need. It looks far more professional to record a video that doesn’t have 20+ tabs on top.

5. BEGIN RECORDING
Hit the start button and it's "Lights, camera, action!" time.

Loom will count down "3, 2, 1" so you know when to begin. I recommend waiting another second or two before speaking. I’ve noticed there’s a little bit of lag time and failing to wait an extra 2 seconds might mean your first few words aren’t recorded.

Pro tip: Don’t speak when switching tabs. Loom takes about 1 second to adjust recording between tabs. Otherwise, your voice might get cut off.

LOOM LIMITATIONS

Every time you load a new page or switch tabs while recording, Loom needs 1 or 2 seconds to get going again. Be sure to pause for a second or you risk getting your voice cut off.

You cannot currently add text overlays, intros, or outros.

You cannot splice videos. This means you can't record multiple videos and edit them together. You can only edit one recording at a time with Loom.

You need to make sure you have a strong internet connection when recording with the online version. The fewer devices on your wifi at one time, the better.
